Understand and Learn How you Can Personally Combat Global Climate Change
Daniel Everly presented an impassioned demonstration of how each of can make a difference in the climate changes that are disastrously impacting our planet. Illustrating his points with books available right here in our Nancy Carol Roberts Library, Daniel discussed the uses of solar panels as one method each of us can employ to make a difference.
Thank you Daniel!

Alliance of Women Democrats is Back!
A transitional steering committee has been working since January to get AWD back up and running. We’ve succeeded! Thanks to the work of Amy Ardington, Deborah Connor, Kathy Davis, Susan Fernbach, Cherryl Gilmore and Bren Hardt, we now have two units meeting each month-- the second Tuesday evening each month at 5:30pm and the regular Guadalajara 3rd Wednesday lunch meeting (11:30am).
Our newly-created teams are already working, and we have a vision, mission, and operating values. If ever there were a season to be passionate and active in safeguarding democracy, this is it!
Vision
We envision an egalitarian organization that empowers women in our community toward a high level of political and civic engagement to create an open, just, peaceful, and democratic world.
Mission
We will announce/offer opportunities for frequent fellowship, learning, discussion, personal growth and advocacy for democratic values such as freedom, dignity, equal rights, free expression and the rule of law.
Operating Values
We will base our social & interpersonal interactions on trust, caring and solidarity - as well as a healthy respect for differences. This means all our work is nonviolent. This nonviolence will extend to the ways we communicate and, hopefully, to the ways we think.
Goals: to be both a social club and club for social change.
Everyone is invited to join one of the following teams:
Monthly Mobilization Meetings Team- reserves space, arranges for speakers, sets up donations of snacks if needed, Brings name tags and sign in page.
Liaison Team- liaises with the Democratic Party and Democratic Club of Washington County and surrounding counties, including CODA
Publicity and Fun Team- takes actions to increase visibility, membership & fun.
Ads, yard signs
Join community events such as Juneteenth picnic or parade, etc.
Plan a fun event like a game night once every few months.
Advocacy and Education Team- researches and then engages in advocacy efforts, such as visiting local officials, petitioning the local school district & local gov’t; maintains a Letters to Editors subgroup; studies and reports upon timely issues and relevant books; and organizes public demonstrations
Civic Team- supports the community through civic engagement when possible, such as by attending meetings of affiliated groups (PFlag)and by volunteering in the community by tutoring in public schools, participating in clean-up efforts at parks or in other public spaces, etc.
Hope we see you soon at one of the monthly AWD gatherings.
This is Jennifer Wilburn, who spearheaded getting signs to post in yards around Brenham here she is shown with the sign in her own yard. THANK YOU JENNIFER!!
